Snow Strippers- So What If I’m a Freak (2024) Review

A few weeks ago, Snow Strippers released a new single from their upcoming project, Night Killaz, Vol. 2. I’d argue that this is a top 3 most catchy Snow Strippers song, which is really saying something considering that every song they have is pretty catchy. I would've hated this song when I was in high school in the early 2010s because I was a pretentious, gatekeeping asshole, but Jesus Christ, I’ve been playing the absolute fuck out of this song. It is one of my favorites of the year so far. I will admit that this is definitely not gonna be for everyone, but I am loving it.

Those synths are so euphoric; they make me want to go do drugs and dance in the desert. The gun noises are pretty cheesy, but it’s part of the appeal; it’s supposed to be fun, not fucking Kid A or Dark Side of the Moon or something. The sample they use for the snare is so satisfying, even though it’s basically just the sound of compressed static. This duo has a fantastic ability to make a two-minute song sound like a journey since there’s always variety and lots going on.

“So What If I’m a Freak” has me excited for their upcoming Night Killaz, Vol. 2 project. It also has me excited to see them live in a few weeks.
