Porter Robinson - Knock Yourself Out Review

Porter Robinson’s newest single from his upcoming album was released a few weeks ago and it’s alright. I have listened to it a decent number of times since it dropped and I do enjoy some aspects of the production I think it’s catchy, but I don’t think it is incredible (or at least not as good as “Cheerleader” was. Lyrically, the concept is great. Porter is solid in his songwriting, and so far I am loving the concept this album is going for because it all has to do with perceptions of fame and Porter’s relationship with his fans’s expectations of him. The sound is similar to “Cheerleader” in that it sounds heavily inspired by the cringe-ass pop-punk of the 2000s, and I think that’s why I’m not as into it. That shit aged like fucking milk. I know “Cheerleader” has a similar vibe, however, that song is so catchy and well-written that I can overlook the aesthetic. Overall, I don’t like this one nearly as much as “Cheerleader,” but I am still excited to hear this upcoming teased single and the album in about a month.
